Whoever conquers desire, anger, and greed and then dwells at a tīrtha gains the true fruit of pilgrimage: for such a person, nothing remains unattainable through the merit born of visiting holy places.
अजड्रिय उवाच
Pilgrimage bears its highest fruit when one has first mastered the inner foes—desire, anger, and greed. External sacred travel is presented as truly efficacious only when supported by inner discipline and moral restraint.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused discourse, the speaker teaches about the proper meaning of tīrtha and religious practice, emphasizing that ethical self-conquest is the foundation that makes pilgrimage spiritually fruitful.
