तानि निर्मथ्य मनसा दध्नो घृतमिवोद्धृतम्‌ । प्रपितामह ब्रह्माजीने जो दस हजार नाम बताये थे, उन्‍्हींको मनरूपी मथानीसे मथकर मथे हुए दहीसे घीकी भाँति यह सहख्रनामस्तोत्र निकाला गया है ।। गिरे: सारं यथा हेम पुष्पसारं यथा मधु

tāni nirmathya manasā dadhno ghṛtam ivoddhṛtam | gireḥ sāraṃ yathā hema puṣpasāraṃ yathā madhu ||

Vāyu said: “Churning those (ancient divine names) with the mind—like butter clarified into ghee from curd—this hymn of a thousand names has been drawn out. It is the very essence: as gold is the essence extracted from ore, and as honey is the essence drawn from flowers.”
