Vāyu said: “When I had received his permission, I then praised him. Now, O Kṛṣṇa, listen: I shall relate the collection of names of that great-souled Lord—origin of the universe, without beginning or end—as it was spoken by the Lotus-born Brahmā. O Śrī Kṛṣṇa, hear the name-compendium of Bhagavān Śiva—giver of boons, the most excellent, of universal form, and supremely wise—described by Brahmā. These are the ten thousand sets of names that the Grandsire (Brahmā) proclaimed.”

Educational Q&A

The verse frames the ethical-religious value of reverent speech: divine praise (stuti) is offered with permission and humility, and the recitation/hearing of sacred names is presented as a disciplined devotional act that orients the listener toward the eternal, all-encompassing source of the cosmos.

Vāyudeva addresses Kṛṣṇa, stating that after receiving consent he praised the deity, and now he will transmit a name-compendium of Bhagavān Śiva as originally spoken by the Lotus-born Brahmā (the Grandsire), introducing an extensive litany of Śiva’s epithets.
