jātimaraṇabhīrūṇāṁ yatīnāṁ yatatāṁ vibho
O Lord, (this is said) concerning the yatis—renunciant ascetics who fear the cycle of birth and death—those who strive with disciplined effort (toward liberation).
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights the spiritual motivation of true renunciants: fear of repeated birth and death (saṁsāra) drives them to sustained effort and disciplined striving toward liberation.
Vāyudeva addresses a revered figure as “Vibhu,” introducing a point about ascetics—those who, fearing the bondage of birth and death, undertake rigorous effort and restraint.
