Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)

स भवांस्त्वमुपाध्वर्यू रणाग्नौ हुतवान्‌ नृपान्‌ । कृष्णख्रुवेण महता युगान्ताग्निसमेन वै,तुमने स्वयं होता बनकर प्रलयकालीन अग्निके समान तेजस्वी श्रीकृष्णरूपी विशाल खुवाके द्वारा समराग्निकी ज्वालामें सम्पूर्ण रुजाओंकी आहुति दे डाली है

sa bhavāṁs tvam upādhvaryū raṇāgnau hutavān nṛpān | kṛṣṇa-khruveṇa mahatā yugāntāgni-samena vai ||

Bhīṣma said: “You, as it were, acted as the assistant priest at the sacrifice, offering kings into the fire of battle. Using the great ladle that was Kṛṣṇa—blazing like the conflagration at the end of an age—you poured them in as oblations.”
