Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)
जो प्रतिदिन शीघ्रतापूर्वक मर्यादाका बोध करानेवाली बुद्धिके द्वारा दुष्कर व्रतका आचरण करती है, पतिमें ही मन लगाती है और निरन्तर पतिके हित-साधनमें लगी रहती है, उसे पतिव्रत- धर्मके पालनका सुख प्राप्त होता है ।। पुण्यमेतत् तपश्चैतत् स्वर्गश्षैष सनातन: । या नारी भर्त॒परमा भवेद् भर्त॒व्रता सती,जो साध्वी नारी पतिव्रत-धर्मका पालन करती हुई पतिकी सेवामें लगी रहती है, उसका यह कार्य महान् पुण्य, बड़ी भारी तपस्या और सनातन स्वर्गका साधन है
puṇyam etat tapaś caitat svargaś ca eṣa sanātanaḥ | yā nārī bhartṛparamā bhaved bhartṛvratā satī ||
Maheshvara said: This is a deed of great merit; it is itself a form of austerity, and it becomes an eternal means to heaven: when a woman is devoted above all to her husband, steadfast in the vow of fidelity, and lives as a virtuous wife—continually engaged in her husband’s welfare and service—she attains the happiness that comes from fulfilling the dharma of a pativratā.
