Bhishma said: The observant man comes to dwell for a thousand yugas, mounted upon a divine aerial car—ornamented with gems, pearls, and coral—radiant like lightning and endowed with divine qualities. It is drawn by rhinoceroses and elephants.
भीष्म उवाच
That disciplined observance of vows (vrata) yields vast merit, symbolized by extraordinary heavenly conveyance and prolonged residence in a higher realm; ethical restraint is portrayed as a direct cause of exalted spiritual reward.
Bhishma is describing the फल (result) of a particular vow-based practice: the practitioner ascends a divine vimāna yoked with rhinoceroses and elephants and dwells there for an immense duration (a thousand yugas), illustrating the grandeur of the promised reward.
