Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

Bhīṣma said: “In a lofty celestial mansion whose upper portion appears wondrously variegated, more than one honored being dwells. For as long as a thousand years’ rain falls upon Jambudvīpa, so long does that revered one abide there—resplendent in a radiant aerial car—enjoying esteem and companionship, as the fruit of meritorious conduct.”

Educational Q&A

Bhishma underscores the karmic principle that honorable, meritorious conduct yields exalted posthumous rewards—symbolized by residence in a splendid celestial abode for a vast, measured duration.

Bhishma continues a description of a heavenly state: an honored person (not alone) dwells in a lofty, wondrously colored celestial residence, and the duration of that enjoyment is expressed through a grand temporal measure linked to rainfall over Jambudvipa.
