Inquiry into the Discipline of Fasting
प्रत्यक्ष भिन्नहृदया भेदयेयु: कृतं नरा: । श्रियाभितप्ता: कौन्तेय भेदकामास्तथारय:,यदि बड़ा भाई प्रत्यक्षरूपसे अपराधका दण्ड देता है तो उसके छोटे भाइयोंका हृदय छिन्न-भिन्न हो जाता है और वे उस दुर्व्यवहारका लोगोंमें प्रचार कर देते हैं, तब उनके ऐश्वर्यको देखकर जलनेवाले कितने ही शत्रु उनमें मतभेद पैदा करनेकी इच्छा करने लगते हैं
pratyakṣa-bhinnahṛdayā bhedayeyuḥ kṛtaṃ narāḥ | śriyābhitaptāḥ kaunteya bhedakāmās tathārayāḥ ||
Bhishma said: If an elder brother openly inflicts punishment for an offence, the hearts of the younger brothers are torn and wounded; they then spread that harsh treatment among people. Seeing their prosperity, many enemies—burning with envy, O son of Kunti—begin to desire and attempt to sow dissension among them.
