उपवासविधि-प्रश्नः
Inquiry into the Discipline of Fasting
जिस कुलमें पापी पुरुष जन्म लेता है, उसके लिये वह सम्पूर्ण अनर्थोका कारण बन जाता है। पापात्मा मनुष्य कुलमें कलंक लगाता और उसके सुयशका नाश करता हैं] सर्वे चापि विकर्मस्था भागं नाहन्ति सोदरा: । नाप्रदाय कनिषेभ्यो ज्येष्ठ: कुर्वीत यौतकम्,यदि छोटे भाई भी पापकर्ममें लगे रहते हों तो वे पैतृक धनका भाग पानेके अधिकारी नहीं हैं। छोटे भाइयोंको उनका उचित भाग दिये बिना बड़े भाईको पैतृक-सम्पत्तिका भाग ग्रहण नहीं करना चाहिये
bhīṣma uvāca | sarve cāpi vikarmasthā bhāgaṃ nārhanti sodarāḥ | nāpradāya kaniṣṭhebhyo jyeṣṭhaḥ kurvīta yautakam |
Bhīṣma said: Even if they are one’s own brothers, those who persist in sinful and unlawful conduct do not deserve a share of the ancestral estate. And the eldest should not appropriate the patrimony for himself without first giving the younger brothers their due allotment. A single wicked man born in a family becomes the cause of widespread ruin: he stains the lineage and destroys its good repute.
