Anuśāsana-parva 108

यष्टव्यं च यथाशक्ति यज्ैविविधदक्षिणै: । अत ऊर्ध्वमरण्यं च सेवितव्यं नराधिप,अपनी शक्तिके अनुसार भाँति-भाँतिकी दक्षिणावाले यज्ञोंका अनुष्ठान करना चाहिये। नरेश्वर! तदनन्तर गार्हस्थ्यकी अवधि समाप्त हो जानेपर वानप्रस्थके नियमोंका पालन करते हुए वनमें निवास करना चाहिये

yaṣṭavyaṃ ca yathāśakti yajñair vividha-dakṣiṇaiḥ | ata ūrdhvam araṇyaṃ ca sevitavyaṃ narādhipa ||

Bhishma said: “One should perform sacrifices to the best of one’s ability, offering varied forms of sacrificial gifts (dakṣiṇā). Thereafter, O king, when the period of household life is complete, one should resort to the forest and live in accordance with the disciplines of the forest-dweller (vānaprastha).”
