गान्धर्वशास्त्रं च कला: परिज्ञेया नराधिप । पुराणमितिहासाश्च॒ तथाख्यानानि यानि च

Transliteration

gāndharvaśāstraṃ ca kalāḥ parijñeyā narādhipa | purāṇam itihāsāś ca tathākhyānāni yāni ca ||

Translation

Bhīṣma said: “O king, you should also become well-acquainted with the science of music (Gāndharva-śāstra) and with the arts. Likewise, you should know the Purāṇas, the Itihāsas (historical narratives), and the various traditional accounts and legends as well.”
