Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

रक्तमाल्यं न धार्य स्याच्छुक्लं धार्य तु पण्डितै: । वर्जयित्वा तु कमलं तथा कुवलयं प्रभो,प्रभो! विद्वान्‌ पुरुषको लाल फूलोंकी नहीं, श्वेत पुष्पोंकी माला धारण करनी चाहिये; परंतु कमल और कुवलयको छोड़कर ही यह नियम लागू होता है। अर्थात्‌ कमल और कुवलय लाल हों तो भी उन्हें धारण करनेमें कोई हर्ज नहीं है

Transliteration

raktamālyaṃ na dhāryaṃ syāc chuklaṃ dhāryaṃ tu paṇḍitaiḥ | varjayitvā tu kamalaṃ tathā kuvalayaṃ prabho ||

Translation

Bhīṣma said: “A garland of red flowers should not be worn; rather, the learned should wear a white one. This rule applies only after exempting the lotus and the blue-lotus (kuvalaya), O lord—so even if those are red-hued, there is no fault in wearing them.”
