Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
मूत्रं नोत्तिषठतता कार्य न भस्मनि न गोव्रजे । आर्द्रपादस्तु भुंजीत नार्द्रपादस्तु संविशेत्,खड़ा होकर पेशाब न करे। राखमें और गोशालामें भी मूत्र त्याग न करे, भीगे पैर भोजन तो करे, परंतु शयन न करे
mūtraṃ nottiṣṭhatā kāryaṃ na bhasmani na govraje | ārdrapādas tu bhuñjīta nārdrapādas tu saṃviśet ||
Bhīṣma said: “One should not pass urine while standing; nor should one urinate upon ashes or within a cowshed. If one’s feet are wet, one may still take food, but one should not lie down to sleep with wet feet.” In this teaching on right conduct, Bhīṣma sets forth rules of bodily discipline and cleanliness, treating even ordinary acts as part of dharma and reverence for pure places.
