Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

लोष्ठमर्दी तृणच्छेदी नखखादी च यो नर: । नित्योच्छिष्ट: संकुसुको नेहायुर्विन्दते महत्‌,जो ढेले फोड़ता, तिनके तोड़ता, नख चबाता तथा सदा ही उच्छिष्ट (अशुद्ध) एवं चंचल रहता है, ऐसे कुलक्षणयुक्त मनुष्यको दीर्घायु नहीं प्राप्त होती

Transliteration

loṣṭamardī tṛṇacchedī nakhakhādī ca yo naraḥ | nityocchiṣṭaḥ saṅkusuko nehāyur vindate mahat ||

Translation

Bhīṣma said: A man who habitually crushes clods of earth, snaps blades of grass, bites his nails, and remains constantly unclean from eating remnants—restless and fidgety in conduct—does not attain long life in this world.
