Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

ब्राह्म॒णार्थे च यच्छौचं तच्च मे शृूणु कौरव । पवित्र च हितं चैव भोजनाद्यन्तयोस्तथा
Transliteration
brāhmaṇārthe ca yacchaucaṃ tac ca me śṛṇu kaurava | pavitraṃ ca hitaṃ caiva bhojanādyantayos tathā ||
Translation
Bhīṣma said: “O Kaurava, listen from me to that purity (śauca) which is to be observed for the sake of Brahmins. It is both sanctifying and beneficial—especially with regard to the beginning and the end of eating (i.e., the proper observances surrounding food).”
