Bhishma said: “O lord of men, a wise person who seeks prosperity should always reside in a well-made house—one whose construction has been duly commenced after Vāstu-worship performed by a brāhmaṇa, and which has been built by skilled craftsmen.”

Prosperity and well-being are supported by disciplined, dharmic conduct even in worldly matters: begin construction with proper ritual sanctification (Vāstu-pūjana by a brāhmaṇa) and rely on competent workmanship; then live steadily in such a rightly established home.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing the king (Yudhiṣṭhira) on practical dharma. Here he gives guidance on how a ruler or householder should establish a residence—ritually and ethically—so that one’s life and governance rest on auspicious, orderly foundations.
