Vāyu said: “O Śrī Kṛṣṇa, those who have stayed away for a full year should be honored with the madhupārka offering. A householder should always eat only food that remains after sacrifice (yajña-śiṣṭa), for that is the proper rule of life. Therefore, if a king, an officiating priest (ṛtvij), a snātaka (one who has completed the sacred student’s discipline), a teacher (guru), or a father-in-law returns home after a year, they should be received and worshipped with madhupārka.”
