janeśvara! asya gṛhastha-dharmasya pālanaṃ satataṃ kurvan tvaṃ iha-loke suyaśaḥ prāpsyasi, para-loke ca svargaṃ prāpsyasi.

Bhishma said: “O lord of men, if you continue to uphold this dharma of the householder, you will gain good repute in this world, and in the world beyond you will attain heaven (svarga).” — Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, in the Anuśāsana Parva, within the Dāna-dharma section, ends the ninety-seventh chapter, called “The Rite of Bali-offering (bali-dāna).”

Educational Q&A

Steady observance of gṛhastha-dharma yields two fruits: honorable reputation in this life and heavenly attainment after death—linking ethical household conduct with both social and spiritual outcomes.

In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction section on gifts and offerings, Bhishma concludes a counsel to the addressed ruler, affirming the benefits of continuing the prescribed householder duties.
