Householder Duties and Daily Offerings
इदमस्ति गृहे महमिति नित्यं निवेदयेत् । ते यद् वदेयुस्तत् कुर्यादिति धर्मों विधीयते,जो नित्य अपने घरमें स्थित नहीं रहता, वह अतिथि कहलाता है। आचार्य, पिता, विश्वासपात्र मित्र और अतिथिसे सदा यह निवेदन करे कि “अमुक वस्तु मेरे घरमें मौजूद है, उसे आप स्वीकार करें।” फिर वे जैसी आज्ञा दें वैसा ही करे। ऐसा करनेसे धर्मका पालन होता है
idam asti gṛhe mama iti nityaṃ nivedayet | te yad vadeyus tat kuryād iti dharmo vidhīyate |
Vāyudeva said: One should regularly make this humble declaration: “This is available in my house.” Whatever those elders or guests then instruct, one should do accordingly—this is the rule of dharma. In ethical terms, a person who does not remain permanently settled in one’s home is regarded as an atithi (a guest). Therefore, to one’s teacher, father, trusted friend, and to a guest, one should always offer what is present at home and invite them to accept it; then one should act exactly as they direct. By such conduct, one upholds dharma through hospitality, reverence, and obedience to rightful guidance.
