Kāśī princesses taken; encounter with Śālva; Ambā’s declaration
कुरु: खलु दाशाहीमुपयेमे शुभाड़ीं नाम । तस्यामस्य जज्ञे विदूर:,कुरुने दशारहकुलकी कन्या शुभांगीसे विवाह किया। उसके गर्भसे विदूर नामक पुत्र हुआ
kuruḥ khalu dāśārhīm upayeme śubhāṅgīṃ nāma | tasyām asya jajñe vidūraḥ |
Vaiśampāyana said: Kuru indeed married a Dāśārha maiden named Śubhāṅgī. From her, a son was born to him, named Vidūra.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic social order through lawful marriage and the importance of lineage continuity; it situates personal unions within the broader ethical and historical framework of dynastic responsibility.
Vaiśampāyana continues the Kuru genealogy: King Kuru marries a woman of the Dāśārha clan named Śubhāṅgī, and their son Vidūra is born.
