Educational Q&A

The verse upholds a royal ideal: a legitimate ruler is expected to embody śīla (ethical conduct), vīrya (valor/competence), and continuity of the line through progeny—presented as marks of a worthy dynasty.

Janamejaya expresses confidence in the excellence of his ancestral line, asserting that no earlier king of that dynasty was ever morally deficient, powerless, or without offspring—setting a tone of dynastic pride and expectation.
