Vaiśampāyana said: The king, accompanied by his ministers, removed the outward insignia of royalty. With the help and company of his family priest, he then proceeded—now in a plain guise—into that excellent hermitage.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical self-restraint: when approaching a place of tapas and dharma, even a king should set aside symbols of power and approach with humility, guided by wise counsel (ministers) and sacred authority (purohita).
The king, together with his ministers and priest, removes the visible emblems of royalty and goes into an excellent hermitage, indicating a deliberate shift from royal posture to respectful, ordinary conduct suitable for an āśrama.
