Vaiśampāyana said: “O lord of men, Atri is heard to have many sons. All of them are knowers of the Veda—accomplished, serene in spirit, and great seers.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse upholds an ethical-spiritual ideal: true greatness is marked by Vedic knowledge, inner tranquility, and spiritual accomplishment. Lineage is presented not merely as birth, but as continuity of dharmic qualities—learning, self-mastery, and sagehood.
In a genealogical and rishi-lineage context of the Ādi Parva, Vaiśampāyana informs the king that the sage Atri is traditionally said to have many sons, and characterizes them collectively as Veda-knowers, perfected beings, and calm-minded great seers.
