King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
भूमिरत्नादिभिदनिस्तथा पूज्या भवन्ति ते । वरदानमहायज्ञैस्तथा शक्रोत्सवेन च,“इतना ही नहीं, उनका सारा जनपद ही उत्तरोत्तर उन्नतिशील और प्रसन्न होगा।' राजन! इस प्रकार महात्मा महेन्द्रने, जिन्हें मघवा भी कहते हैं, प्रेमपूर्वक महाराज वसुका भलीभाँति सत्कार किया। जो मनुष्य भूमि तथा रत्न आदिका दान करते हुए सदा देवराज इन्द्रका उत्सव रचायेंगे, वे इन्द्रोत्सवद्वारा इन्द्रका वरदान पाकर उसी उत्तम गतिको पा जायँगे, जिसे भूमिदान आदिके पुण्योंसे युक्त मानव प्राप्त करते हैं
vaiśampāyana uvāca | bhūmiratnādibhir dānais tathā pūjyā bhavanti te | varadāna-mahāyajñais tathā śakrotsavena ca ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Through gifts such as land and jewels, people become worthy of honor and reverence; likewise through bestowing boons, performing great sacrifices, and by celebrating the festival of Śakra (Indra).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Honor and elevated spiritual/social standing arise from generosity (especially high-value gifts like land and jewels) and from sustaining communal religious life through boons, great sacrifices, and festivals dedicated to Indra; ethical merit is linked to both personal charity and public-spirited ritual.
Vaiśampāyana generalizes the outcome of certain meritorious acts: those who give substantial gifts and uphold major rites—particularly the celebration of Śakra/Indra’s festival—become revered and gain auspicious results, reinforcing a theme of prosperity through dharmic patronage.
