Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the traditional ethic of śravaṇa (attentive listening) and orderly inquiry: sacred history is best approached with humility, readiness, and a clear request for a specific lineage or topic, so that the narration proceeds coherently and preserves the integrity of the tradition.

Śaunaka, addressing the narrator, requests that the account begin with the Bhārgava lineage. He asks the storyteller to narrate the Bhārgava-related story first, stating that the assembled listeners are eager and prepared to hear it.
