Bhrigu Lineage Preface and the Pulomā–Agni Dialogue
tathā satyaṃ samākhyāhi jihīrṣāmy āśramād imām | sa manyus tatra hṛdayaṃ pradahann iva tiṣṭhati | matpūrvā bhāryā yad imāṃ bhṛgur āpa sumadhyamām |
“So tell me the truth plainly. I intend to carry this woman away from the hermitage. That anger remains there, as though burning my heart. This slender-waisted woman was formerly my wife, yet Bhṛgu has taken her.”
The verse foregrounds satya (truthfulness) as the necessary basis for resolving a moral dispute, while also warning how manyu (anger) can dominate judgment and drive one toward coercive action (the intent to seize someone from an āśrama).
Śaunaka demands a truthful account and declares his intention to take the woman away from the hermitage, claiming she was once his wife and that Bhṛgu has wrongfully taken her; his unresolved anger is described as burning his heart.
