Takṣaka said: “Sir, the threads of our lineage have been gnawed away by Time. And what you see here, O brāhmaṇa—the root half-eaten—is the last remaining support of our family line, diminished by the devouring power of Kāla.”

Educational Q&A

The verse stresses the ethical urgency of preserving dharma and lineage against the inevitable erosion of Time (Kāla). Human and familial continuity is fragile; delay and neglect allow ‘Time’ to consume what remains.

Takṣaka explains a symbolic scene: the ‘threads’ of their family have been consumed by Time, and the half-eaten ‘root’ represents the last remaining support of their lineage—what is left after Kāla has already destroyed most of it.
