Kṛśa said: “When the sons of sages are conversing, do not speak any word in their midst. In the presence of accomplished ones like us—adepts, knowers of Brahman, and ascetics—maintain restraint and silence.”
कृश उवाच
The verse teaches disciplined speech: in the presence of spiritually accomplished elders—sages’ sons, ascetics, and knowers of Brahman—one should not interrupt or speak lightly. Ethical restraint (saṃyama) and reverence are presented as marks of proper conduct.
Kṛśa issues a directive about etiquette in an ascetic setting: when the ṛṣiputras are engaged in conversation, the listener is instructed to remain silent and not interject, especially before siddhas, brahmavits, and tapasvins.
