Śṛṅgī’s Curse on King Parikṣit
Parikṣit–Śṛṅgī–Takṣaka Causal Link
नैषा वो नैछिकी बुद्धिर्मता कर्तु भुजड़मा: । सर्वेषामेव मे बुद्धि: पन्नगानां न रोचते,“नागगण! तुम्हारी बुद्धिने जो निश्चय किया है, वह व्यवहारमें लानेयोग्य नहीं है। इसी प्रकार मेरा विचार भी सब सर्पोंको जँच जाय, यह सम्भव नहीं है
naiṣā vo naiṣṭhikī buddhir matā kartuṁ bhujaṅgamāḥ | sarveṣām eva me buddhiḥ pannagānāṁ na rocate ||
Śeṣa said: “O serpents, the resolve your minds have formed is not fit to be put into practice. And likewise, it is not possible that my own judgment will be pleasing to every one of the snakes.”
शेष उवाच
A decision, even if firmly held, must be judged by its practicability and ethical fitness; also, a leader’s counsel cannot be expected to satisfy every member of a diverse community.
Śeṣa addresses the assembled serpents, rejecting their proposed course as unfit to implement and acknowledging that his own view will not necessarily be agreeable to all snakes.
