समुद्विग्ना विससृपुस्तथान्या भूतजातय: । मदकी धारा बहानेवाले हाथी, शार्दूल, केसरी, सिंह, मृग, भेंस, सैकड़ों पक्षी तथा दूसरी-दूसरी जातिके प्राणी अत्यन्त उद्विग्न हो इधर-उधर भागने लगे,कृष्णमशभ्युद्यतास्त्रं च नादं मुमुचुरुल्बणम् | उन्होंने उस जलते हुए वनको और मारनेके लिये अस्त्र उठाये हुए श्रीकृष्ण तथा अर्जुनको देखा। उत्पात और आर्तनादके शब्दसे उस वनमें खड़े हुए वे सभी प्राणी संत्रस्त- से हो उठे थे। उस वनको अनेक प्रकारसे दग्ध होते देख और अस्त्र उठाये हुए श्रीकृष्णपर दृष्टि डाल भयानक आर्तनाद करने लगे स मारुत इवाभ्राणि नाशयित्वार्जुन: सुरान्
samudvignā visasṛpus tathānyā bhūtajāṭayaḥ | kṛṣṇam abhyudyatāstraṃ ca nādaṃ mumucur ulbaṇam || sa māruta ivābhrāṇi nāśayitvārjunaḥ surān ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Terrified, the various kinds of living creatures scattered in all directions. Seeing Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna with weapons raised, and beholding the forest ablaze, they let out dreadful cries. The tumult and wailing filled the woodland, and all beings standing there were shaken with fear. Arjuna, like a wind that drives away masses of clouds, pressed on—clearing the way and overpowering the opposing forces.
