Vaiśampāyana said: Agni, having met with failure, fell into deep despondency and remained continually weighed down by exhaustion. Angered, the Fire-god approached the Grandsire Brahmā, seeking a way out of his thwarted purpose.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When power meets obstruction, mere anger is not enough; one should seek wise counsel and align action with a higher order (dharma/niyati). The verse frames frustration as a cue to turn toward guidance rather than uncontrolled retaliation.
After repeated failure, Agni becomes despondent and angry, and he goes to Brahmā (the Pitāmaha) to obtain a solution—setting up the next developments connected with Agni’s aim and the events leading into the Khāṇḍava episode.
