For that mighty one sought the welfare of the whole world as well as his own. Ever intent on doing what was beneficial, the great-souled king Yudhiṣṭhira, O best of the Bharatas, passed his time in contentment—finding joy in righteous purpose rather than in mere pleasure.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A righteous ruler seeks the welfare (hita) of all people while also maintaining his own well-being; true contentment arises from sustained intention to do good rather than from indulgence.
Vaiśampāyana describes Yudhiṣṭhira’s disposition: he remains engaged in actions aimed at universal and personal welfare, and thus lives in steady satisfaction and calm prosperity.
