Sunda and Upasunda: Austerities and the Boon
इहैव वर्तमानास्ते समीपे तव पार्थिव । अजातपक्षा: शिशव: शकिता नैव बाधितुम्,वीर! पहले भी तुमने अनेक गुप्त उपायोंद्वारा पाण्डवोंको दबानेकी चेष्टा की है, परंतु उनपर तुम्हारा वश नहीं चल सका। भूपाल! वे जब बच्चे थे और यहीं तुम्हारे पास रहते थे, उस समय उनके पक्षमें कोई नहीं था, तब भी तुम उन्हें बाधा पहुँचानेमें सफल न हो सके
ihaiva vartamānās te samīpe tava pārthiva | ajātapakṣāḥ śiśavaḥ śakitā naiva bādhitum ||
Karna said: “Even when they were living right here, close to you, O king—mere children, their ‘wings’ not yet grown, with no supporting party—you were still unable to harm or suppress them. Earlier too you tried many secret stratagems to keep the Pāṇḍavas down, yet you could not bring them under your control.”
