तस्याथ कामधुग् धेनुर्वसिष्ठस्थ महात्मन: । उक्ता कामान् प्रयच्छेति सा कामान् दुह्मुते सदा,महात्मा वसिष्ठजीके यहाँ एक कामधेनु थी, जो “अमुक-अमुक मनोरथोंको पूर्ण करो' यह कहने-पर सदा उन-उन कामनाओं को पूर्ण कर दिया करती थी
tasyātha kāmadhug dhenur vasiṣṭhasya mahātmanaḥ | uktā kāmān prayaccheti sā kāmān duhmute sadā ||
Then, belonging to the great-souled Vasiṣṭha, there was a wish-fulfilling cow, Kāmadhuk. When she was addressed, “Grant these desires,” she would continually yield—like milk—whatever objects of desire were asked for. The episode underscores the extraordinary power that accompanies ascetic merit and the responsibility implied in possessing such abundance.
गन्धर्व उवाच
Extraordinary resources gained through spiritual merit (tapas) can fulfill desires, but such power implies ethical restraint and responsible use; abundance is not merely for indulgence but must align with dharma.
The Gandharva describes Vasiṣṭha’s miraculous cow Kāmadhuk, who, when asked to grant specific wishes, continually produces the requested desired objects—highlighting Vasiṣṭha’s spiritual stature and the marvel associated with his hermitage.
