The Pāṇḍavas’ Journey toward Pāñcāla and News of the Svayaṃvara
tatāpa sarvān dīptaujā brāhmaṇatvam avāptavān | apibac ca tataḥ somam indreṇa saha kauśikaḥ ||
The radiant and mighty Kauśika (Viśvāmitra) performed austerities that scorched and subdued all realms. Having attained the status of a brāhmaṇa through that tapas, he thereafter drank Soma together with Indra.
The verse emphasizes the transformative potency of tapas (austerity): sustained spiritual discipline can elevate a person beyond prior social identity, culminating in recognized brāhmaṇatva and acceptance among the gods (symbolized by Soma-drinking with Indra).
The Gandharva describes Viśvāmitra (Kauśika) as performing such intense austerities that all worlds are affected; through this he attains brāhmaṇa status, and afterward he partakes of Soma together with Indra, marking his achieved stature and reconciliation/recognition.
