Cause of Kalmāṣapāda’s Niyoga under a Curse
इत्युक्त: स तदा तेन ददानीत्येव निश्चित: । प्रत्यभाषत त॑ विप्रं प्रतिनन्द्य दिवाकर:,वसिष्ठजीके यों कहनेपर अपनी कन्या देनेका निश्चय करके भगवान् सूर्यने ब्रह्मर्षिका अभिनन्दन किया और इस प्रकार कहा--
ity uktaḥ sa tadā tena dadānīty eva niścitaḥ | pratyabhāṣata taṁ vipraṁ pratinandya divākaraḥ ||
Thus addressed, the Sun-god (Divākara), having firmly resolved, “I shall give (my daughter),” welcomed the brahmarṣi and replied with words of honor.
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse underscores dharmic integrity: when a worthy request is made and one forms a righteous resolve, it should be affirmed with steadiness and accompanied by respectful acknowledgment of the virtuous person involved.
After being addressed by the sage, the Sun-god decides, “I will give (my daughter),” honors the brahmarṣi with a courteous welcome, and then responds—marking a formal acceptance and respectful dialogue.
