Educational Q&A

The verse points to atithi-dharma: a guest who comes seeking shelter should be received and cared for. The mention of a disciplined, vow-observing Brahmin highlights the ethical weight of hospitality and the householder’s responsibility to support righteous conduct.

After some days, a Brahmin known for strict vows arrives seeking lodging and goes to the house of another Brahmin. This sets up a hospitality encounter that typically becomes the basis for a moral test or instruction in the surrounding narrative.
