Saṃvaraṇa’s Petition and Tapatī’s Conditioned Consent
samāgatāś ca vīreṇa dṛṣṭapūrvāś ca rākṣasāḥ | balavanto mahākāyā nihatāḥ śāpa-anekaśaḥ ||
I have already seen many rākṣasas—mighty and huge of body—who came forward to confront that hero; time and again they were struck down, meeting their end when they clashed with him.
Aggression driven by brute strength alone leads to ruin; true valor is shown in steadfast protection and the capacity to overcome repeated threats without losing resolve.
A brāhmaṇa recalls earlier encounters in which many powerful, gigantic rākṣasas confronted a certain hero and were repeatedly slain, emphasizing the hero’s proven might and the futility of the rākṣasas’ attacks.
