Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes steadfast conviction in dharma: even in danger, fulfilling one’s obligation (here, ensuring the promised food reaches the rākṣasa) is seen as the path to safety and release. Moral certainty and dutiful action are presented as protective forces.

A brāhmaṇa expresses firm confidence about someone’s course of action: that the person will deliver the entire meal to a rākṣasa and, through that act, will also obtain his own freedom—suggesting a situation involving threat, a demanded offering, and the hope of release.
