Hiḍimba’s Approach and Hiḍimbā’s Warning to Bhīmasena
sarvakalyāṇasampanno viśiṣṭa iti niścayaḥ | tasmāt tvaṃ pāṇḍuputrebhyo rakṣātmānaṃ narādhipa kuruśreṣṭhī |
Kaṇika said: “It is firmly held that you are endowed with every auspicious advantage and are pre-eminent. Therefore, O king—best of the Kurus—protect yourself from the sons of Pāṇḍu.”
The verse emphasizes pragmatic self-protection in kingship: even while maintaining proper conduct, a ruler should act with vigilance so that rivals do not endanger his security and sovereignty.
Kaṇika is advising the Kuru king (contextually Dhṛtarāṣṭra) in a political vein, urging him to be cautious of the Pāṇḍavas and to safeguard his own position, presenting this as prudent royal policy.
