Hiḍimba’s Approach and Hiḍimbā’s Warning to Bhīmasena (हिडिम्बागमनम् / हिडिम्बा-भयवचनम्)
क्षुरो भूत्वा हरेत् प्राणानू निशित: कालसाधन: । प्रतिच्छन्नो लोमहारी द्विषतां परिकर्तन:,लोहेका बना हुआ छूरा शानपर चढ़ाकर तेज किया जाता है और चमड़ेके सम्पुटमें छिपाकर रखा जाता है तो वह समय आनेपर (सिर आदि अंगोंके समस्त) बालोंको काट देता है। उसी प्रकार राजा अनुकूल अवसरकी अपेक्षा रखकर अपने मनोभावको छिपाये हुए अनुकूल साधनोंका संग्रह करता रहे और छूरेकी तरह तीक्ष्ण या निर्दय होकर शत्रुओंके प्राण ले ले--उनका मूलोच्छेद कर डाले
kṣuro bhūtvā haret prāṇān niśitaḥ kāla-sādhanaḥ | praticchanno loma-hārī dviṣatāṃ parikartanaḥ ||
“A razor, once honed to a keen edge as an instrument fit for the right moment, and kept concealed in its leather sheath, will in due time shave away the hair. In the same way, a king should conceal his inner intention, quietly gather the means suited to the occasion, and—when the time is ripe—become razor-like in sharpness and ruthlessness, taking the lives of enemies and cutting them off at the root.”
