Hiḍimba’s Approach and Hiḍimbā’s Warning to Bhīmasena (हिडिम्बागमनम् / हिडिम्बा-भयवचनम्)
व्याप्र उवाच ब्रवीति यदि स होवं काले हास्मिन् प्रबोधित: । स्वबाहुबलमाश्रित्य हनिष्ये5हं वनेचरान्,तमागतमभिप्रेत्य शृगालो<प्यब्रवीद् वच: । बाघने कहा--यदि वह ऐसी बात कहता है, तब तो उसने इस समय मेरी आँखें खोल दीं--मुझे सचेत कर दिया। आजसे मैं अपने ही बाहुबलके भरोसे वन-जन्तुओंका वध किया करूँगा और उन्हींका मांस खाऊँगा। यों कहकर बाघ वनमें चला गया। इसी समय चूहा भी (नहा-धोकर) वहाँ आ पहुँचा। उसे आया देख गीदड़ने कहा
vyāghra uvāca | bravīti yadi sa hovam kāle hāsmin prabodhitaḥ | svabāhubalam āśritya haniṣye'haṃ vanecarān | tam āgatam abhipretya śṛgālo'py abravīd vacaḥ |
The tiger said: “If he truly speaks so, then at this moment he has opened my eyes—he has awakened me. From today, relying on the strength of my own arms, I shall kill the creatures of the forest and eat their flesh.” Having spoken thus, the tiger went into the woods. Just then the mouse also arrived (after bathing and cleansing). Seeing it come, the jackal too spoke.
