Hiḍimba’s Approach and Hiḍimbā’s Warning to Bhīmasena (हिडिम्बागमनम् / हिडिम्बा-भयवचनम्)
अड्कुशं शौचमित्याहुरर्थानामुपधारणे । आनाम्य फलितां शाखां पक्वं पक्वं॑ प्रशातयेत्,'कार्यसिद्धिके लिये शौच-सदाचार आदिका पालन एक प्रकारका अंकुश (लोगोंको आकृष्ट करनेका साधन) बताया गया है। फलोंसे लदी हुई वृक्षकी शाखाको अपनी ओर कुछ झुकाकर ही मनुष्य उसके पके-पके फलको तोड़े
aṅkuśaṃ śaucam ity āhur arthānām upadhāraṇe | ānamya phalitāṃ śākhāṃ pakvaṃ pakvaṃ praśātayet ||
They say that purity—clean conduct and self-restraint—is like a goad for securing and sustaining one’s aims and resources. Just as a man bends toward himself a branch heavy with fruit and then plucks the ripe fruits one by one, so disciplined good conduct draws success within reach and allows it to be gained properly.
