Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

ततो दुर्योधनादींसस््तान् धार्तराष्ट्रानू महायशा: । तेनैव क्रमयोगेन जिज्ञासु: पर्यपृच्छत,तदनन्तर महायशस्वी आचार्यने उसी क्रमसे दुर्योधन आदि धूृतराष्ट्रपुत्रोंको भी उनकी परीक्षा लेनेके लिये बुलाया और उन सबसे उपर्युक्त बातें पूछीं
tato duryodhanādīṁs tān dhārtarāṣṭrān mahāyaśāḥ | tenaiva kramayogena jijñāsuḥ paryapṛcchat tad-anantaram ||
Then the illustrious teacher summoned Duryodhana and the other sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra in the same order. Wishing to test them, he questioned them in the very same manner. The episode affirms that instruction and examination should be impartial, even though the pupils’ temperaments and later choices in dharma will diverge.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A teacher’s duty is to assess students consistently and without favoritism; the same standards are applied to all, even when their later ethical choices differ.
After examining the earlier group in a set order, the teacher next calls Duryodhana and the other Kaurava princes and questions them in the same sequence to test their abilities and dispositions.
