Karna’s Entry, Duel Proposal, and Consecration as King of Aṅga
स जातमात्रान पुत्रांश्व दारांश्न भवतामिह । प्रादायोपनिरधिं राजा पाण्डु: स्वर्गमितो गत:,वे राजा पाण्डु अपनी पत्नी और नवजात पुत्रोंकी आपलोगोंके पास धरोहर रखकर यहाँसे स्वर्गलोक चले गये
sa jātamātrān putrān ca dārān ca bhavatām iha | prādāyopanidhiṁ rājā pāṇḍuḥ svargam ito gataḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Having entrusted to you here, as a sacred deposit, his wife and his sons who were but newly born, King Pāṇḍu departed from this world and went to heaven.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the dharma of custody and protection: when dependents (a wife and newborn heirs) are entrusted as an upanidhi (sacred deposit), the recipients bear a moral obligation to safeguard them and preserve the entrusted lineage and welfare.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that King Pāṇḍu, before departing from the world, placed his wife and newly born sons under the care of others as a trust, and then left for Svarga (heaven).
