Vaiśampāyana said: Seeing that King Pāṇḍu had passed away, the great seers—radiant like the gods and skilled in sacred counsel—conferred together among themselves.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When a crisis strikes—especially the death of a ruler—wise leaders do not act impulsively. They deliberate together, aiming to uphold dharma, maintain social order, and safeguard those who depend on them (notably the heirs).
After Pāṇḍu’s death, the assembled sages, described as god-like and expert in counsel, consult among themselves to decide the proper next steps for the situation that now involves Kuntī, Mādrī, and the young Pāṇḍavas.
