Vaiśampāyana said: “O Janamejaya, when those three princes—Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Pāṇḍu, and the great-souled Vidura—were born, three things flourished greatly: the Kuru lineage, the land called Kuru-jāṅgala, and the sacred field of Kurukṣetra.”

Educational Q&A

The verse links righteous and capable leadership with the flourishing of society: the birth of key figures (especially the dharma-minded Vidura alongside royal heirs) is presented as a cause for the growth of dynasty, territory, and sacred institutions.

Vaiśampāyana continues his genealogy-and-origins narration to Janamejaya, stating that with the births of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Pāṇḍu, and Vidura, the Kuru line and its lands—Kuru-jāṅgala and Kurukṣetra—prospered.
