Pāṇḍu’s Gifts, Forest Residence, and Vidura’s Marriage
त॑ माता पुनरेवान्यमेकं पुत्रमयाचत । तथेति च महर्षिस्तां मातरं प्रत्यभाषत,उसके बाद सत्यवतीने पुनः एक दूसरे पुत्रके लिये उनसे याचना की। महर्षिने “बहुत अच्छा” कहकर माताकी आज्ञा स्वीकार कर ली
tā mātā punar evānyam ekaṃ putram ayācata | tatheti ca maharṣis tāṃ mātaraṃ pratyabhāṣata ||
Then the mother again requested another son. The great sage replied to her, “So be it,” thereby accepting the mother’s wish.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights respect for legitimate familial wishes and the ethical use of spiritual authority: the sage responds without coercion, granting what is asked in a straightforward, consent-based exchange.
A mother asks the sage once more for another son, and the sage answers “tathā”—‘so be it’—signaling his acceptance and readiness to fulfill her request.
