अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
गुरुशुश्रूषया क्षान्त्या यमयोर्विनयेन च । तुतोष लोक: सकलस्तेषां शौर्यगुणेन च
guruśuśrūṣayā kṣāntyā yamayor vinayena ca | tutoṣa lokaḥ sakalas teṣāṃ śauryaguṇena ca ||
By their devoted service to elders and teachers, by their forbearance, and by their disciplined humility, the whole world was pleased with them; and it was pleased also by the excellence of their valorous qualities.
Social and moral approval is earned through a combination of inner discipline—service to elders/teachers, patience, and humility—and outer excellence such as valor; heroism is ethically complete only when grounded in vinaya and self-restraint.
The text describes certain persons (implied from context) whose conduct and character—service to gurus, patience, disciplined humility, and valor—won the satisfaction and admiration of everyone.
